Born and educated in Maputo , Mozambique , saxophonist Ivan Mazuze came to Cape Town in 2000, where he is currently based. Ivan has performed with top South African internationally acclaimed artists, including Jonathan Butler Jimmy Dludlu, Judith Sephuma, Vusi Khumalo; Hotep Galeta and as well as top South African bands such as Tucan Tucan, Dondo and Loading Zone.
He has been featured at numerous international music festivals in Italy and Cuba also including the International jazz festivals in Cape Town , and the Joy of jazz festivals in Grahamstown and Johannesburg .
Internationally, Ivan Mazuze has performed in Cuba , Germany , Norway , Mozambique and Barhain and currently performs in Cape Town with his jazz quartet and afro jazz band where he interprets his original music and other popular music standards.
Ivan obtained the Performers Diploma in music (jazz studies), and was awarded a distinction in jazz ensemble and jazz improvisation at the University of Cape Town (UCT). he obtains a bachelor of music (Honours) in performance and that the degree was awarded in the first class (distinction) at UCT. In 2006 he graduated with a Master's degree in musicology at UCT.
Mazuze is also a published writer, having had articles about music and trance in ritual practices of southern Mozambique , released for the educational magazine "The talking drum". He currently writes articles for different ethno-musicological journals.
In 2008 Ivan Mazuze performed with international acclaimed guitarist and vocalist Jonathan Butler as guest appearance at Artscape, Cape Town .
He constantly provides his services as one of the top session musos in SA; always in demand from stalwarts like the Alvin Dyers quartet, Jimmy Dludlu, Loading Zone, Judith Sephuma and Allou April with whom he also recorded.
