Jonathan Rubain - bass player, band leader, composer.
Rubain first started out playing drums and the lead guitar, but later discovered his love for the bass guitar at the age of 15. His first jazz gig was with legendary Goema artist, Mac Mckenzie. Rubain was a regular member in bands with Robbie Jansen, Errol Dyers, Hilton Schilder's Rock Art. He has also appeared as a featured guest with artists such as Wanda Baloyi, Jeff Maluleke, Allou April & Camillo Lombard.
Rubain has already performed at numerous concerts & festivals locally & abroad round including the Cape Town Jazzathon, Indian Ocean International Jazz Festival, The CT International Jazz Festival & the Genting International Jazz Festival.
The Jonathan Rubain Band plays all Jonathan's original compositions. His music is strongly influenced by the rhythm life of Hanover Park, Cape Town, Pinkster church music and Cape Music Culture such as the Cape Minstrel sound & the Ghoema. Rubain lists world renowned artists such as Victor Wooten, Robbie Jansen, Stanley Clark, Richard Bona, Jonathan Butler, Abdullah Ibrahim, Jimmy Dludlu & Errol Dyers all as having a had profound effect on his musical journey & life.
The Jonathan Rubain Band is one of the most captivating, energetic and soulful bands in town. Jonathan is due to release his debut album in 2009.
